| (Aiken, SC) Aiken Electric Cooperative paid over $3.7 million in property taxes for 2011. In Aiken County alone, Ronnie Young, Aiken County Council Chair recently accepted a check for $2, 031.955 for Aiken County property taxes.
“We aren’t just a power company, we’re a local business,” says Aiken Electric CEO Gary Stooksbury. “Like all individuals and local businesses, Aiken Electric pays taxes annually in each of the nine counties we serve. In fact, this year $6,376 was paid to the City of Aiken.” Aiken Electric, a Touchstone Energy Cooperative, is a member-owned, nonprofit utility that strives to provide reliable, competitively priced energy and other services desired by their members and serves more than 45,000 customers in a nine county area.
